The elimination of emissions from food waste in landfill. Emissions from freight trucks bringing the wasted food to the supermarkets, and then moving it again to food rescue and to landfill, will be reduced, and improvement to the environment. 

One of the major environmental benefits of using Zero Waste will be that water used for growing food that ends up in landfill, is saved.  The saving is estimated to be 2,600 gigalitres – according to the Department of Climate Change
